Abstract

Today's society is daily influenced by the development of new information and communication technologies, which have had the potential to change health services and modify the existing conventional relationships between health care personnel and the population in general. In this context, telemedicine is established as a tool which is capable of promoting the development of this branch of science, where the potential existing in medical care, distance education and scientific research, encourage its immediate integration and use. That is why, the authors of this article intended to describe how the current development of telemedicine behaves, and supported on the significant role it is achieving, along with its future application within the health-disease process. To this end, a review of the national and international literature was performed, with 29 articles chosen.
