Abstract

Introduction: the Chapter of Basic Biomedical Sciences of the Provincial Council of Scientific Societies, together with the University Student Federation (FEU) of the University of Medical Sciences of Guantánamo, developed on October 13, 2023 the First Edition of the National Research Meeting of Biomedical Basic Sciences “Medical Science and Innovation 2023”.

Objective: characterize the works presented in the First Edition of the National Research Meeting of Biomedical Basic Sciences “Medical Science and Innovation 2023”.

Methods: a descriptive, observational and bibliometric study was carried out from November 2023 to February 2024 on the works presented in the First Edition of the “Medical Science and Innovation 2023” event. The universe was made up of 43 works presented at the event, the sample was 39 investigations. The variables related to the authors and the research presented were studied.

Results: Guantánamo and Havana were the provinces with the largest number of works, there was a greater representation of review articles and few case presentations, 93 Cuban participants were registered with a predominance of females (77,41 %). A tendency to five authors per   work was evident, thus representing 33 % and a significant affinity (79 %) with respect to topic 1: medical research.

Conclusions: the works presented were characterized by a greater origin from the Guantánamo province, a predominance of review articles, a tendency to five authors per work and a greater representation of the medical research topic.
