Watson's Theory of Human Caring Approach to Surgical Care: Ethical and Empathic Impact Analysis
Abstract
This study analyzes the application of Jean Watson's Theory of Human Caring in surgical care, highlighting its influence on care quality from an ethical and empathetic perspective. The theory emphasizes the humanization of care, promoting dignity, emotional well-being, and patient safety in the pre- and postoperative context. A non-experimental, cross-sectional, descriptive design with a qualitative approach was used, allowing for exploration of nursing professionals' and patients' perceptions of its implementation. Documentary analysis, inductive-deductive, and analytical-synthetic methods were used to evaluate its effectiveness. The results indicate that the application of this theory improves patient satisfaction, reduces postoperative complaints, and reinforces the ethical commitment of healthcare personnel. However, its effectiveness varies by context, requiring continuous adaptation and evaluation to optimize its impact on surgical practice.
