Abstract

Introduction: many researchers have been conducted, both by Cuban and foreign authors, who have addressed US policy towards Cuba since 1959, but most of these analyses, have addressed a common theme: the aggressive factor, sometimes ignoring the steps that were taken for a possible normalization.
Objective: to describe three of the most significant attempts to normalize relations between Cuba and the United States.
Method: a historical research was carried out, throughout a bibliographic review, supported by the review of articles on internet and printed books, in relation to the attempts to normalize the relations between Cuba and the United States. They were used as methods of the theoretical level: analytical-synthetic, inductive-deductive, historical-logical, and the documentary review from the empirical level.
Conclusions: during the administrations of Gerald Ford and James Carter, processes were opened with the intention of advancing towards the normalization of relations between Cuba and the United States, because during Kennedy's presidential term, they were frustrated when the assassination of the American president occurred.
