Abstract

A bibliographic review was carried out with the objective of describing the current state of diabetic foot treatment; citing 25 articles published in the indexes of Scielo, Lilacs, Redib and Medigraphic databases. The documents analyzed published relevant aspects of diabetic foot in people suffering from diabetes mellitus, its concept, epidemiology, quality of life, modified Wagner classification, risk factors, diagnosis, treatment including Heberprot-P; primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention. Education in the care of feet is essential to prevent this complication. It was concluded that diabetic foot is a severe cause of morbidity, disability and poor quality of life for diabetic people; a program that included strategies for the prevention, education, treatment of diabetic foot complications and monitoring of these diabetic people have proven to be effective in reducing the frequency of amputations.
