Introduction: cerebrovascular diseases are increasing at present, of this type of disease the Spontaneous Intraparenchymal Hemorrhage is the second most common cause of vascular accident, being a serious health problem for the population.
Objective: to characterize the patients diagnosed with Spontaneous Intraparenchymal Hemorrhage at the General Teaching Hospital Abel Santamaría Cuadrado de Pinar del Río between 2017-2018.
Method: an observational, descriptive and retrospective study was carried out at the General Teaching Hospital “Abel Santamaría Cuadrado” in Pinar del Río between 2017 and 2018, being selected in a simple random probabilistic way from a universe of 95 patients with clinical and imaging diagnosis, a sample of 51. The review of medical records, and the application of instruments and imaging studies allowed obtaining the information that gave out the variables studied. Ethical principles were respected.
Results: patients predominated in the seventh decade of life (62,7 %), male sex (84,3 %), with motor disorders (88,1 %) and irritating central nervous system (62,7 %) prevailing, arterial hypertension was the guiding base disease (62,7 %), with supratentorial localization prevailing (90 2 %), and on the Hemphill Scale grade 0 prevailed (47,1 %).
Conclusions: the study allowed to know the particularities of this group, allowing an early diagnosis and the consequent timely treatment of this nosological entity with great repercussion for the patient's life.
