Abstract

Introduction: nothing better to know a man of public life than his correspondence, undoubtedly the most sincere and intimate legacy. His letters reveal the life-work coherence of the apostle and provide important elements to detail the circumstances in which he revolutionized.

Objective: to describe the filial relationship between Marti and Leonor Perez Cabrera through their correspondences.

Methods: a historical documentary research was carried out, in which theoretical methods such as documentary analysis; historical-logical, system approach and systematization were used.

Development: Marti and his mother, Leonor Pérez, had a complicated relationship, with disagreement in several ideas. Leonor instilled in her son deep convictions, moral values and an unbreakable fighting spirit. Marti allegations penetrated deeply in the mind of his mother, who realized that he would give his life to the cause for the independence of Cuba.

Conclusions: through the lengthy correspondence it is possible to approach the complicated relationship between him and his mother. It is possible to identify the deep love both shared one for each other, independently of Marti decision to give his life to the greatest mother: the Homeland. The dissemination of the values present in this filial relationship is of great importance for its application in the comprehensive training process of the healthcare professionals and the future community work they will perform.
