Prevención y promoción de la salud oral en adultos mayores: Evaluación de programas y enfoques mediante revisión sistemática

Introducción: La salud oral en adultos mayores representa problema de salud pública global con impacto significativo en calidad de vida, estado nutricional y salud general. El envejecimiento poblacional incrementa prevalencia de patologías orales requiriendo estrategias preventivas efectivas.
Objetivo: Evaluar sistemáticamente la efectividad de programas de prevención y promoción de salud oral en adultos mayores, identificando intervenciones exitosas y barreras de implementación.
Métodos: Revisión sistemática siguiendo guía PRISMA en bases de datos PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science y SciELO hasta diciembre 2024. Se incluyeron revisiones sistemáticas, metaanálisis y ensayos clínicos sobre intervenciones educativas y cuidado oral profesional en adultos ≥60 años.
Resultados: Las intervenciones educativas para personal cuidador mejoran conocimientos y actitudes, con impacto variable en salud oral de residentes. El cuidado oral profesional reduce significativamente placa dental. Tecnologías mHealth muestran resultados prometedores. Principales barreras: recursos limitados, alta carga laboral, conocimientos insuficientes del personal.
Conclusiones: Las intervenciones multicomponente que integran educación profesional, cuidado oral supervisado y tecnologías digitales demuestran mayor efectividad. Se requiere enfoque multidisciplinario con protocolos estandarizados y capacitación continua para sostener mejorías en salud oral de adultos mayores.
