Introduction: one of the most common skin conditions is psoriasis, a disease that has received great attention from physicians and researchers, becoming a model to study chronic inflammation.
Objective: to identify risk factors present in older adults with psoriasis.
Methods: observational, descriptive, cross-sectional, cross-sectional study, conducted in a sample of 16 older adults belonging to the "Mi Abuelito" Comprehensive Care Center for the Elderly in Riobamba, Ecuador, during the period 2021-2022. The documentary review and physical examination of the patient allowed obtaining information that led to the variables studied. Medical ethics were respected.
Results: female sex predominated (62,5 %), with the 75 to 89 years age group being the most representative (56,3 %). Thirty percent of the patients presented incidence regarding the use of drugs, mainly antihypertensive, anti-inflammatory and antidepressant drugs. Metabolic syndromes predominated in 20 %, with 17 % showing a family history of psoriasis and overweight.
Conclusions: among the risk factors for psoriasis, the genetic factor is the most relevant, specifying that the use of some drugs, the presence of metabolic syndromes and overweight were the main triggering factors identified in the study. In view of this, it is necessary to apply a comprehensive and multidisciplinary care approach in patients with psoriasis, especially if there are other related diseases that are not identified and that can negatively influence the recovery and outcome of the disease.
