El síndrome metabólico hace referencia al grupo de factores de riesgo para una enfermedad cardíaca y otras enfermedades y problemas de salud como la diabetes, los pacientes que padecen de este síndrome suelen verse aquejadas por sobrepeso, obesidad, inactividad física, resistencia a la insulina, la edad y hasta cierto punto por el género; de hecho, la organización mundial de la salud indicó que a inicios del siglo XXI ya se observaba el crecimiento de las cifras de fallecidos a causa de Enfermedades Cardiovasculares que se relacionaron directamente con el padecimiento del Síndrome Metabólico
